Cincinnati Reds Hire Terry Francona as New Manager with Three-Year Contract
Oct 4, 2024, 03:04 AM
The Cincinnati Reds have officially hired Terry Francona as their new manager. Francona, a two-time World Series champion and three-time Manager of the Year, will come out of retirement one year after stepping down from managing the Cleveland Guardians. The Reds have signed Francona to a three-year contract through the 2027 season, with a club option for 2028. The decision to hire Francona follows the Reds' recent firing of David Bell. Francona's extensive managerial experience includes previous stints with the Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Red Sox, and Cleveland Guardians, where he amassed a career record of 1950-1672, three pennants, and two World Series titles over 23 seasons. The Reds hope that Francona's leadership will guide their young and talented team to future success. The Reds reached out to Francona earlier this week and met with him in his home in Tucson, Ariz.
