China Adds 350 GW Renewable Energy in 2023, 63% of Global Total, 4x G7
Jun 5, 2024, 06:02 AM
China has significantly increased its renewable energy capacity in 2023, adding almost 350 GW of new capacity, which accounts for more than half of the global total. This new capacity is predominantly from solar and wind energy, with some contributions from hydropower. China’s newly added green energy capacity is four times that of the G7 countries combined and greater than the rest of the world combined, accounting for 63% of worldwide newly installed renewable energy. This achievement underscores China's leading role in the global renewable energy sector. It is likely that some form of government intervention and policy changes will be required to ease fossil fuel plants from the energy mix.
