Valve Faces £656 Million Lawsuit in UK for Overcharging 14 Million Gamers and Market Dominance
Jun 13, 2024, 09:13 AM
Valve Corporation, the owner of the video game distribution platform Steam, is facing a class-action lawsuit in the UK. The lawsuit, totaling £656 million (approximately $843 million), accuses Valve of overcharging 14 million UK gamers and abusing its dominant market position. The Competition Appeal Tribunal claims that Valve's 30 percent revenue cut from game purchases allows it to hold a monopoly and breach the UK's competition law. The allegations include market rigging, anti-competitive behaviour, and deliberately shutting out competition.
