On December 19, 2024, in a historic trial known as the 'Mazan rapes', the Court of Vaucluse in Avignon found Dominique Pelicot guilty of aggravated rape of his ex-wife, Gisèle Pelicot. Over nearly a decade, Pelicot drugged his wife, filmed the assaults, and orchestrated her abuse by dozens of strangers in their home in Mazan. He was sentenced to the maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. The 50 other co-accused were also found guilty.
