US Lawmakers Urge Google, YouTube to Restore 'Glory to Hong Kong'
Jun 6, 2024, 10:35 PM
US lawmakers, including Representative Chris Smith and Senator Jeff Merkley, have urged Google and YouTube to restore the protest song 'Glory to Hong Kong' on their platforms. The song was removed for users in Hong Kong following a court injunction. The bipartisan and bicameral Congressional-Executive Commission on China (CECC) chairs have sent a letter to Google CEO Sundar Pichai and YouTube CEO Neal Mohan, criticizing the companies for over-complying with the injunction and asking when they might appeal the decision. Hongkongers were geo-blocked from viewing the song.
