Brazil's Federal Police Indict Bolsonaro and 36 Others in Alleged Coup Plot
Nov 21, 2024, 06:42 PM
Brazil's Federal Police have formally accused former President Jair Bolsonaro and 36 others, including high-ranking military officials and former ministers, of orchestrating a coup attempt following his electoral defeat in the 2022 elections. The investigation, which concluded on November 21, 2024, alleges that Bolsonaro had full knowledge of a plot to assassinate President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and other key figures. The list of those indicted includes General Braga Netto, former Justice Minister Anderson Torres, and former Defense Minister Walter Braga Netto. The Federal Police's report, spanning over 800 pages, has been sent to the Supreme Federal Court (STF) for further action. Bolsonaro has criticized STF Minister Alexandre de Moraes, accusing him of manipulating the investigation.
