Fidelity Boosts Bitcoin Holdings With $463M Purchase Amid $755M ETF Resurgence
Jan 16, 2025, 06:15 AM
Fidelity Investments has significantly bolstered its Bitcoin holdings, purchasing 4,661 Bitcoin worth $463 million on January 15, 2025. This move comes amidst a broader trend of institutional investors and companies like MicroStrategy, which added nearly 200,000 BTC in the last 10 weeks, accumulating Bitcoin for their corporate treasuries. BlackRock also reported an inflow of 318 Bitcoin. The purchase by Fidelity's FBTC fund contributed to a $755 million resurgence in Bitcoin ETF inflows after a period of outflows. Other Bitcoin ETFs, including those from ARK, 21Shares, Grayscale, Bitwise, BlackRock, VanEck, Invesco Galaxy, and Franklin Templeton, also recorded positive inflows. Additionally, Ethereum ETFs saw $59.8 million in inflows, driven by Fidelity and BlackRock. The trend of companies and potentially nation states acquiring Bitcoin for their reserves, with Argentina leading the charge, suggests a growing acceptance of cryptocurrency as a legitimate asset class.
