NYC Hosts Over 58,000 Criminal Migrants, Including 1,000+ Gang Members: ICE Report
Nov 30, 2024, 05:34 PM
New York City has become a refuge for over 58,000 undocumented migrants with criminal records or facing charges, including more than 1,000 gang members, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This revelation comes amidst a broader discussion on border security and immigration policy under the Biden-Harris administration. Recent data shows a significant increase in encounters at the northern border, with October 2024 alone witnessing a 300% surge compared to the previous year. Since 2021, over 56,000 illegal aliens with criminal convictions or outstanding warrants have been arrested by Customs and Border Patrol. The administration's policies have been criticized for encouraging illegal crossings, with 59% of encounters in October occurring at ports of entry, a sharp rise from 15% in FY2021. This situation has raised concerns about the safety of American communities and the need for stricter border control measures. ICE/ERO NYC Field Office Director Kenneth Genalo has noted that there are 58,000 deportable persons in NYC with criminal arrests or convictions, out of the 759,218 illegal-border crossers identified in the city. Reports also indicate that the number of known gotaways since 2021 could be underreported by 20%, suggesting a potentially higher number of undocumented migrants.
