VisitBiden: Assad Regime Falls After 13-Year Civil War, Marks "Fundamental Act of Justice"
Dec 8, 2024, 07:11 PM
President Joe Biden announced that the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has fallen after 13 years of civil war and more than half a century of brutal authoritarian rule by Assad and his father. Speaking from the White House, Biden declared, "At long last, the Assad regime has fallen. This regime brutalized, tortured, and killed literally hundreds of thousands of innocent Syrians." He described the fall as "a fundamental act of justice" and "a historic opportunity for the long-suffering people of Syria to build a better future." However, he cautioned that this moment also represents "a moment of risk and uncertainty" and a "turning point" for the region. Biden credited the efforts of rebel forces who have forced Assad to resign and flee the country.
