Colombia Seizes 225 Tons of Cocaine Worth $8 Billion in 62-Country Operation
Nov 28, 2024, 05:30 AM
Colombia has announced the seizure of a record-breaking 225 metric tons of cocaine in a massive international operation spanning six weeks. The operation, which involved 62 countries, uncovered a new Pacific trafficking route connecting South America to Australia. Colombian authorities intercepted three narco-submarines, or semi-submersibles, carrying cocaine, with the drugs estimated to be worth over $8 billion. The operation also led to 400 arrests and highlighted Australia's lucrative black market, where a kilogram of cocaine can fetch up to $240,000. In total, 1,400 tons of drugs were seized during this international collaboration, which included agencies from the United States, Brazil, and the Netherlands, among others.
