NCAA Issues ASU 4-Year Probation, Vacates 10 Wins, Edwards Penalized
Apr 19, 2024, 10:39 PM
The NCAA has issued sanctions against Arizona State University (ASU) for mitigated Level I recruiting infractions during the COVID-19 dead period. The penalties include four years of probation, vacated wins from 10 games across the 2021 and 2022 seasons, scholarship reductions, recruiting restrictions, and a five-year disassociation from an involved booster. Former head coach Herm Edwards, who acknowledged the infractions, received a show-cause penalty of at least three years. The NCAA noted that the violations were serious and caused significant damage, but no further debilitating sanctions were deemed necessary as the responsible individuals are no longer with the university. Additionally, Arkansas State faced a minor penalty for tampering involving former staffers Nick Montgomery and Jon Shalala.
