Hong Kong Issues HK$1 Million Bounties for Carmen Lau, Tony Chung, Chloe Cheung, and Three Others Living Overseas
Dec 24, 2024, 05:17 AM
The Hong Kong government has issued arrest warrants and bounties of HK$1 million (approximately $128,728) for six pro-democracy activists living overseas. The individuals targeted include Carmen Lau, Tony Chung, Chloe Cheung, Chung Kim-wah, Victor Leung Mau-ho, and Joe Tay. These actions are part of an ongoing enforcement of the National Security Law, which was enacted in March 2024. The authorities accuse these individuals of violating national security laws and undermining the territory's stability. This latest move brings the total number of individuals wanted under such laws to 19. The warrants have raised concerns about transnational repression, particularly regarding the implications for the activists' current residences in countries such as the UK and Canada.
