Arkansas Wins Liberty Bowl 39-26; Green MVP, James Sets Record, Pittman Gets Extension
Dec 28, 2024, 01:04 AM
Arkansas defeated Texas Tech 39-26 in the Liberty Bowl, concluding the season with a 7-6 record under head coach Sam Pittman. Quarterback Taylen Green, named the game's MVP, delivered a stellar performance with 422 total yards and three touchdowns. The Razorbacks surged ahead early, leading 21-3 after the first quarter, highlighted by a 12-yard touchdown run by Green following a 70-yard dash by running back Rodney Hill, a 1-yard touchdown run by Braylen Russell, and a record-breaking 94-yard touchdown pass from Green to Dazmin James—the longest pass play in Arkansas and Liberty Bowl history. Despite a Texas Tech comeback that narrowed the halftime score to 24-19, Arkansas extended their lead in the second half. Green connected with Tyrell Reed Jr. for a 47-yard touchdown, and kicker Matthew Shipley added three field goals. Defensive efforts were bolstered by linebacker Xavian Sorey, who was named the game's Most Outstanding Defensive Player, and a safety recorded by Anton Juncaj. Offensive standout Dazmin James was recognized as the Most Outstanding Offensive Player. The victory secured an automatic one-year contract extension and a $250,000 raise for Pittman.
