Israel Intensifies Airstrikes on Beirut and Tripoli, Targets Hezbollah Strongholds
Oct 5, 2024, 01:31 PM
Israel has intensified its airstrikes on Beirut, Lebanon, targeting the southern suburbs known as Hezbollah strongholds. Over the past few days, Israeli warplanes have conducted multiple raids, including six airstrikes within one hour, resulting in extensive destruction with residential buildings leveled to the ground and the southern suburbs being heavily bombarded throughout the night. The areas of Dahieh, Burj al-Barajneh, Haret Hreik, Chouaifet, and Al-Joura have been particularly affected, with the southern suburbs reportedly being flattened. Israeli forces also launched drone strikes on the Beddawi refugee camp in the northern city of Tripoli. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated that the airstrikes, which included the use of cruise missiles from warships, targeted Hezbollah's intelligence division and weapons depots in response to escalating tensions. The bombardment has caused significant damage to civilian infrastructure, raising concerns over the humanitarian impact on the local population.
