Four-Alarm Keller Fire in Oakland Hills Prompts Evacuations, Burns Homes
Oct 18, 2024, 09:25 PM
A fast-moving vegetation fire, dubbed the Keller Fire, broke out on Friday afternoon in the Oakland Hills near Interstate 580 and Mountain Boulevard. The fire has escalated to a four-alarm status, prompting mandatory evacuations for Campus Drive and Crystal Ridge Court. High winds and a Red Flag Warning have exacerbated the situation, with flames spreading to nearby neighborhoods and burning multiple homes. Approximately four structures are involved, and 60 firefighters are responding to the blaze. Interstate 580 has been shut down as crews continue to battle the fire. A Cal Fire plane has been deployed to drop fire retardant on the blaze.
