UK Tuition Fees to Increase to £9,535 from 2025, Announces Education Secretary
Nov 4, 2024, 02:14 PM
Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson is expected to announce that university tuition fees in England will rise for the first time in eight years, increasing in line with Retail Price Index (RPI) inflation. The fees, which have been capped at £9,250 since 2017, are anticipated to increase to £9,535 from September 2025. The decision comes amid concerns about the financial health of the UK's higher education sector, with universities reportedly losing £4,000 on each domestic student due to rising costs. Maintenance loans for poorer students are also expected to increase from £10,227 to £10,544 to help cover living expenses. The announcement is expected to be made in the House of Commons this afternoon around 4pm. The move aims to bolster university finances and address the funding crisis facing the sector.
