Jihadist Attack on Chad Military Base in Lake Region Kills 40 Soldiers on Sunday

A jihadist attack on a military base in Chad's Lake region has resulted in the deaths of around 40 soldiers, according to the Chadian presidency. The attack, which occurred on Sunday night in Barkaram, was reportedly carried out by Boko Haram militants, although some reports suggest involvement of ISWAP or JAS terrorists. The base housed a 200-strong army unit. President Mahamat Idriss Deby has launched an operation to track down those responsible. The incident marks a significant escalation in violence in the region, which has been frequently targeted by insurgents.
