VisitNORAD Fighter Jets Intercept Russian and Chinese Bombers Near Alaska

On July 24, 2024, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) detected, tracked, and intercepted two Russian TU-95 and two Chinese H-6 strategic bombers operating in the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ). The intercept was conducted by US and Canadian fighter jets. The Russian and Chinese aircraft remained in international airspace but were considered to be in a 'threatening posture'. This marks an apparent first where Russian and Chinese bombers were intercepted while operating together near Alaska.
