Biden to Visit New Orleans After Terror Attack Kills 14 on Bourbon Street

President Joe Biden addressed the nation following a deadly New Year's Day terrorist attack in New Orleans, in which an Army veteran deliberately drove a truck bearing an Islamic State flag into a crowd on Bourbon Street, killing at least 14 people and injuring dozens more. The FBI confirmed that the attacker acted alone and had posted pro-ISIS videos before the attack. Calling the incident "despicable," Biden vowed that the United States will "relentlessly pursue ISIS and other terrorist organizations," emphasizing that they will find "no safe harbor" in the country. The President expressed his condolences, stating, "To all the people of New Orleans who are grieving today, I want you to know I grieve with you. Our nation grieves with you." The White House announced that President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will travel to New Orleans on Monday, January 6, to "grieve with the families and community members impacted by the tragic attack" and meet with officials on the ground. The visit aims to support a city still reeling from an attack that has revived fears of terrorist violence on American soil.
