Retired Rival Andy Murray to Coach 24-Time Grand Slam Champion Novak Djokovic at 2025 Australian Open
Nov 23, 2024, 05:00 PM
Andy Murray, the recently retired 37-year-old three-time Grand Slam champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist, will join Novak Djokovic's coaching team ahead of the 2025 Australian Open. Djokovic, who holds 24 Grand Slam titles, announced on Saturday, November 23, that Murray will serve as his coach during the off-season and through the tournament in January. Murray retired after the 2024 Paris Olympics. Djokovic expressed his excitement, stating, "I am delighted to have one of my biggest rivals on the same side of the net as me, this time as a coach." The two have a long-standing rivalry, having faced each other numerous times over the past two decades, including in four Australian Open finals where Djokovic emerged victorious. This unexpected collaboration brings together two of tennis's most accomplished players.
