Loud Blast Near CRPF School in Delhi's Rohini; NIA, NSG Investigate Suspected Crude Bomb, No Casualties Reported
Oct 20, 2024, 05:54 AM
On the morning of October 20, 2024, a loud explosion occurred near a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) school in the Prashant Vihar area of Rohini district, Delhi. The blast was heard around 7:47 am, prompting immediate response from the Delhi Police, Fire Department, and forensic teams. While the school wall was found damaged and nearby shops and a car sustained damage, no casualties or injuries have been reported. A foul smell was detected at the site, and window panes and glasses in the school premises were broken. Eyewitnesses reported a thick cloud of smoke lasting for about 10 minutes after the explosion. Investigative agencies, including the Delhi Police Special Cell, Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team, National Security Guard (NSG) commandos and bomb squad, National Investigation Agency (NIA), and explosives experts, arrived at the scene to conduct a thorough investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that the explosive material resembles a crude bomb, with chemicals such as ammonium nitrate and phosphorus possibly involved. A suspicious white powder-like substance was found near the damaged wall. The police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under the Explosives Act. The area has been cordoned off, and search operations are ongoing to determine the cause of the explosion.
