FDA Authorizes First Over-the-Counter COVID-19 and Flu Test, Four Free Tests Available
Oct 8, 2024, 04:22 PM
The FDA has granted marketing authorization for the first over-the-counter combination COVID-19 and flu test. This test, which can be used without a prescription, allows individuals experiencing respiratory symptoms to use a nasal swab sample to obtain at-home results for both COVID-19 and flu. This authorization marks the first time such a test is available outside of emergency use. The test is expected to be a valuable tool for families as the flu season approaches. Additionally, households nationwide can now order four free COVID-19 tests, which can detect current variants and be used through at least the end of 2024.
