Microsoft Unveils Copilot+ PCs with Phi Silica AI Model, 58% Faster with Qualcomm Snapdragon
May 24, 2024, 01:15 PM
Microsoft has introduced its new Copilot+ PCs, featuring the Phi Silica, a 3.3 billion parameter AI model designed for Neural Processing Units (NPUs). This model can generate 650 tokens per second using just 1.5W, freeing up the main processors for other tasks. Additionally, the Phi-3 models, including Phi-3 Vision with 4.2 billion parameters, have set new performance standards in visual reasoning and OCR, outperforming larger models from competitors like Anthropic and Google. The Copilot+ PCs promise to deliver a consistent and enhanced user experience, with longer battery life and improved performance for everyday applications. These advancements are part of Microsoft's broader strategy to integrate AI into personal computing, making PCs more efficient and accessible. Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Series platform will support these AI-powered PCs, offering the industry's fastest NPU and highest performance processor. Microsoft executives, including CEO Satya Nadella, CTO Kevin Scott, and Windows and Surface head Pavan Davuluri, have emphasized the transformative potential of these innovations. The Copilot+ PC is reported to be 58% faster than the MacBook Air M3.
