Qantas Pays $120M to Settle Ghost Flight Sales, Compensates Passengers
May 6, 2024, 07:00 AM
Qantas Airways has agreed to pay a substantial fine and compensation to resolve allegations of misleading consumers by selling tickets for flights that were already canceled. The Australian airline will pay a total of $120 million, which includes a $66 million penalty and $20 million in compensation to affected passengers. This settlement was reached with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) to avoid a court battle over what has been referred to as the 'ghost flights' scandal, where the airline continued to sell tickets on thousands of flights it had already decided to cancel. Compensation amounts will range from $225 to $450 per affected customer.
