Hong Kong Issues HK$1 Million Bounties for Six Overseas Activists Under Article 23
Dec 24, 2024, 04:45 AM
The Hong Kong government has escalated its crackdown on pro-democracy activists by issuing arrest warrants and HK$1 million bounties for six individuals based overseas, accused of national security offences under Article 23. The targeted activists include Tony Chung, Carmen Lau, Chloe Cheung, Chung Kim-wah, Joseph Tay, and Victor Ho, who are now residing in countries such as the UK and Canada. Additionally, the government has cancelled the HKSAR passports of seven other activists previously issued bounties, including former lawmakers Ted Hui and Dennis Kwok, under the city's domestic security law. This move also prohibits these individuals from dealing with funds in Hong Kong and engaging in activities related to immovable properties and joint ventures. The actions mark the third round of such measures since the imposition of the Beijing-enforced national security law, bringing the total number of wanted activists to 19.
